THE Courier - a free monthly publication of Independent School District 15, Community Education & Services, provide local, school, and community news to the area.
It's history begins in the mid 1980s, when the advisory council for community education in District 15 began to discuss what to do about the lack of viable and reliable news outlet following the closure of The Anoka North American newspaper. The council provided direction and seed money, as well as office space, and the Community Courier was started. Continuing under the direction of Community Education, the inaugural issue in October 1993 was published. That beginning blossomed froma 16-page paper with a few ads into a shining, colorful 36-page publication with a strong advertising base. The Courier's mission has always been to bridge school, business and community together. The publication was honored as the Project of the Year at the 1994 Minnesota Community Education Association conference.
Today The Courier is delivered the first Wednesday of each month to residents, employees, and businesses in and around District 15, reaching nearly 15,000 readers. Cities include St. Francis, Oak Grove, East Bethel, Bethel and Nowthen, and portions of Andover, Isanti, Zimmerman, El River, Wyoming, and Ham Lake. The Courier can also be read online at www.the-courier.org. The Courier office also provides graphic layout and print media services for the school district and community.
A recently added feature, the Isanti Marketplace, brings information to readers regarding businesses and events happening in the Isanti Area. Isanti businesses that advertise are invited to submit a press release on the business or event, such as the Isanti Rodeo, Jubilee Days, sidewalk sales and holiday open houses, to name a few. The Court staff looks forward to working with the Isanti business community.
